“Prosecutor’s offices don’t just prosecute,” Hudnut said in a Tuesday announcement at City Hall. “Prosecutors can solve community problems, strengthen bonds between underserved populations and the police and local government, and save scarce municipal resources.”
“After almost 8 years of giving voice to the voiceless as an advocate for the accused, I feel uniquely qualified to take this role in a city that is at the national forefront of progressive local reform. I am inspired by likes of Larry Kramer in Philadelphia and Mark Gonzalez in Nueces, Texas — both forward-thinking and successful prosecutors that came from the defense bar,” Hudnut continued. “Whether you are a defense attorney or a prosecutor, your goal is to make sure that every litigant before a court – be it a person accused of a crime or a complainant – gets a fair shake. That was my goal as a defense attorney, and it will be my goal as Jersey City Chief Prosecutor.”
